Description

ACAS logic is very complex because it needs to balance between minimizing nuisance alerts (which could lead to warnings being neglected) and activating when there is a danger of collision. This has resulted in the developmnent of sophisticated algorithms and rules. For example, there are multiple sets of thresholds for RA activation accounting for the different circumstances during different flight phases. Also, algorithms have been developed to address specific situations. Two examples of these are:
