Data Acquisition Flight Recorder (DAFR)
Data Acquisition Flight Recorder (DAFR)
Definition
A Data Acquisition Flight Recorder (DAFR) is a compact unit that combines functions of a Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and a Flight Data Recorder (FDR).
Description
DAFRs, like other units that combine CVR and FDR functions, can save space and wiring in the avionics bays of heavily automated modern aircraft. Some are specifically designed for rotorcraft or other smaller aircraft.
Typical models provide 25 hours of flight data recording and at least two hours of audio recording. Design features often include solid state microprocessors and Ethernet data download capabilities. Faults are normally displayed on the aircraft's Engine Indicating and Crew Alerting System (EICAS).
