This advisory circular (AC) contains standards for the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of Engineered Materials Arresting Systems (EMAS) in runway safety areas (RSA). Engineered Materials means high energy absorbing materials of selected strength, which will reliably and predictably deform under the weight of an aircraft.
