Accident Report 2/2015 on the serious incident to Boeing B787-8, ET-AOP London Heathrow 12 July 2013
On 12 July 2013 an unoccupied and unpowered Boeing 787-8, remotely parked at London Heathrow after an arrival earlier the same day caught fire. The investigation found that an uncontained thermal runaway had initiated a fire that had then been sustained by the resin contained in the composite fuselage structure. It was concluded that the damage caused by the fire had compromised the ability of the aircraft to carry flight loads and that the aircraft type certification process followed had been flawed. Fifteen Safety Recommendations, all but one to the FAA, were made as a result of the Investigation.
