On 29 January 2024, a Bombardier Global 5000 taxiing at Dubai International after landing was in receipt of a conditional clearance to cross an active runway then did so after seeing an unlit stop bar ahead and believing that an aircraft ahead was the conditional traffic. This followed the controller’s use of non-standard phraseology and incorrect stop bar switching and the crew’s failure to seek clarification for the absence of lit taxiway centreline lights ahead. An Airbus A330-300 taking off from the same runway did not respond to a stop call but became airborne 1,330 metres before reaching the crossing point.
