This document is an unedited advance version of an ICAO publication. This Circular provides an overarching conceptual understanding of the surface friction characteristics contributing to controlling the aircraft via the critical tyre to ground contact area. The intent is to provide a broad and fundamental understanding to support proposed changes by the ICAO Friction Task Force to the Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) in Annex 14 Aerodromes
