On May 8, 1999 a Saab 340B was executing a daytime IMC approach to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), New York. The crew performed steep approach with visibility figures close to the RVR minimum, while the airplane was not configured for landing. As a result of the late touchdown, the aircraft sustained substantial damage and overran the runway onto the installed Engineered Materials Arresting System (EMAS). One passenger suffered a serious injury.
