Effects of Automation in Air Traffic Control

Overview

This webinar will present the work of Michèle Rieth, who is primarily concerned with the effects of automation on work design and new requirements for employees in high reliability organizations. Within the scope of her PhD research project, she cooperates with DFS (Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH) analyzing the effects of automation in Air Traffic Control. Leading research questions are: How does increasing automation change the occupation profile of air traffic controllers today and in the future? How can automation be used as effectively as possible in the sense of an equal team player for humans (Joint Cognitive Systems)? In this webinar, Michèle will present her previous results, especially with regard to the air traffic controllers’ need satisfaction and their current automation perception.

Michèle Rieth is a business psychologist, graduated in 2018, and works as a research assistant and PhD candidate in the field of Business Psychology and Human Resource Management at the University of Bremen, Germany.
