Handling surprises – lessons learned from HindSight

Overview

In safety-critical industries, surprises are rarely welcome. But they happen, and we have to be prepared to be surprised. This was the topic of HindSight magazine issue 34: Handling Surprises: Tales of the Unexpected. In this webinar, Editor-in-Chief Dr Steven Shorrock synthesises lessons from the diverse selection of articles from front-line staff, senior managers, and specialists in operations, human factors, safety, and resilience engineering in the context of aviation, healthcare, maritime, and web operations. The webinar will reflect on surprise handling by individuals, teams and organisations from the perspectives of personal experience, theory, research, and training.
