Computer Based Training (CBT)
Computer Based Training (CBT)
Definition
Computer Based Training (CBT) involves the use of online course and testing material for ground training in aviation.
Description
Nearly all ground-based training in 21st-century aviation involves the use of online and digital resources for training and testing. Most pilot ground schools, for example, use self-directed online course material to supplement classroom lectures. Similarly, most knowledge tests, formerly called written tests, are completed by computer.
CBT offers the advantages of convenience and the ability for students to study and review at will. However, CBT courses can be expensive to develop, and they do not generally offer the detailed feedback and question-and-answer sessions available with an in-person instructor.
